Introducing the NFIA, a community based non-profit organization of
associated artists. The NFIA will provide a platform in which artists
come together freely to exchange ideas on technique,
subject matter, and sales initiatives.The NFIA will also raise
money for local causes by organizing art shows,creating murals
and public beautification projects, as well as donating works
for charity auction.

The NFIA invite you to celebrate its arrival in Long Beach.
The National Foundation of Independent Artists is local Non-profit
organization created to establish and maintain a network of resources
for artists by artists.

These resources include, a working gallery as a base of operation, an
already established link to city and private art functions, such as
participation in private " invite only" shows, as well as city sponsored
events. We also regulary meet to discuss issues pertaining to the
artist role in society.
We also share technique and sales initiatives.
"Independent Earth A second look" is a joint venture between the
NFIAand the BlueGreen exhibit combining to display the efforts
over 50 different locally and internationally known artists.

The BlueGreen exhibit aims to bring the realities of environmental
issues to light through visual communications.
BlueGreen will also reach out to collaborate with environmental
organizations and to bring as much media attention possible to the
show and its mission..........................................

As always NFIA will be accepting donations and/or pledges in order to
continue bringing you the most culturally aware and prolific art
available..

NFIA in association with C1D Gallery in Long Beach California are proud to present an innovative way to responsibly convey an artistic shift to prioritize organization. The NFIA is a forum where advanced level professional artists can verbally and artistically express their work through discussion. Our participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and collaborate with other artists by exposing unique techniques, that will improve their process of creative development and self application, to enhance their work. NFIA interacts with local and surrounding communities to enforce the positive impact of art, by participating in local events, art exhibitions, mural projects, and educational courses. NFIA and C1D are committed to undeniably support our artists and -most importantly- offer an unforgettable experience of interaction and artistic bliss.

Tijuana.- Mucho colorido sobre formas abstractas resaltadas por luces de neón conforman la exposición del artista Enrique Chiu ‘Luces ambulantes / Traveling Ligths’, la cual se encuentra en el Pasillo de la Terraza del Instituto de Cultura de Baja California desde el pasado jueves.
Se trata de una colección de cerca de 15 piezas, la mayoría en gran formato, que el artista originario de Guadalajara pero con domicilio en la frontera ha realizado desde hace 6 años a la fecha, fusionando tanto su sensibilidad artística como su negocio de luces y publicidad.
“Tengo una compañía desde hace 9 años en Los Ángeles, la compañía es de luces de neón y luces para publicidad. Empecé a incorporar lo que era mi negocio de neón y luces con lo que yo siempre he hecho que es la pintura y el dibujo... traté de mezclar vidrio, luego neón a los contornos de las figuras que hacía, fue como empezó todo... Soy artista, diseñador y también soy electricista, es parte principal de mi negocio, y lo mezclé con el arte”, comparte Enrique Chiu, quien además es fundador del National Foundation of Independet Artists, un colectivo que impulsa el trabajo de sus integrantes mediante exposiciones en diversos foros de la frontera.
En ‘Luces ambulantes / Traveling Ligths’ el artista expone parte de su historia, tanto personal como de las piezas mismas que conforman la exposición, debido a que muchas de ellas también han viajado por importantes galerías y museos de diversas ciudades de los Estados Unidos, como Long Beach, San Francisco, Los Ángeles, Atlanta y Nueva York. “Las obras tienen historias, vienen de diferentes tiempos, traen historias mías, historias de los lugares que he visitado...”, explica Enrique, quien asimismo ha llevado su trabajo artístico a El Salvador y Panamá.
En un estilo abstracto-surrealista donde los colores cálidos así como los colores primarios predominan, Enrique Chiu desarrolla su obra, en la cual procura verter parte de su individualidad mediante evocaciones al ritmo y a historias de su pasado.
“A mí me encanta el color, me encanta mezclar lo que es la música ambiental dentro de mis piezas, incluso en la publicidad lo que llama la atención son los colores”, comenta, añadiendo que a través de su obra trata de mostrar los colores tal como él los ve, mediante un concepto “cultural, armónico, rítmico”.
Enrique Chiu, quien cuenta con obra en la colección permanente del Museo de Arte Latinoamericano en Long Beach y en el Museo de Arte en Neón de Los Ángeles, reitera que lo que los tijuanenses podrán ver en esta exposición “es la historia mía como artista”, siendo la pieza que más le representa la titulada ‘Traveling in Life’, la cual -según confiesa- “habla sobre la historia de mi vida desde que era joven, anécdotas, historias románticas...”, aunque se trata de una de las pocas piezas a las que no le incluye neón.
Sin embargo, ‘Traveling in Life’ al exhibirse al lado de otras obras que cuentan con este agregado luminoso, como ‘Sunset’ o ‘Party Everywhere’, adquiere nueva identidad y nuevo colorido, siendo ésa una de las finalidades de Enrique Chiu al emplear el neón, pues gusta de la posibilidad de cambio que provocan las sombras y las luces, lo que brinda a las piezas una infinidad de combinaciones.
Además de la técnica de acrílico sobre madera intervenido por el neón, el artista y director de arte del Cid Gallery en el Dustrito de Arte de Long Beach, California, opta por materiales poco convencionales, como en su obra escultórica ‘Entre pedazos’, la cual elaboró a base de metal y martillo; o la titulada ‘Cultura popular’ hecha a base de vidrio como si fuera una mesa.
El proceso creativo de Enrique depende de la pieza misma que se encuentre construyendo, ya que en ocasiones pasa periodos largos entregado a la elaboración de una obra, añadiendo y eliminando elementos, pero en otras ocasiones pareciera que la pieza misma le dijera “estoy lista”.
Hay una comunicación entre el artista y su creación, misma que ha llegado a ser catalogada como ‘arte chicano’ tras una residencia de su autor de 15 años en Estados Unidos. No obstante, Enrique aclara que su obra es mexicana, como él, y destaca en ella aspectos de la propia cultura que podrían parecer trillados a los ojos de quienes han perdido su capacidad de asombro.
La mayoría de las piezas de ‘Luces ambulantes / Traveling Ligths’ está disponible para su venta posterior a la exposición en el ICBC, donde estará por espacio de un mes.

The NFIA application process was created to distinguish the most qualified applicants in regards to clarity and expression of views, technique, and body of work. Simply answer six questions and submit 10 images with a short description of each via e-mail.

1. Give us a bit of personal background about yourself i.e. where you're from, schooling, affiliations, etc.

2. Do you have a genre in mind when you think of how you would describe your work?

3. Tell us a little bit about your recent work, what ideas do you hope the viewer will take with them, and how does this translate to the content in your paintings.

4. If there was only one idea or theme that most accurately described the purpose of your work, what would it be?

5. What do you believe the role of an artist should be? What do you think of the state of modern art today?
